It's true! Here is the press release:

EAST BOSTON, Mass. — That inscrutable and wedded duo behind Kaki Lima Boston will soon take their next step toward culinary infamy. The rumors are true. On Oct. 19, Kaki Lima will begin a residency at KO Pies in the East Boston Shipyard. Call it KL@KO.

Chef Retno Pratiwi and her tireless husband Peter Gelling will be serving their wildly popular Indonesian fare twice a week — Mondays and Tuesdays (when KO is typically closed) — at KO Pies in the East Boston Shipyard (256 Marginal St.). KO's usual beer and wine selections will also be available.

“We've been working with Sam Jackson at KO Pies now for well over a year, holding our popular pop up dinner series. And now Sam is generously giving us the opportunity to take our restaurant education to the next level,” says Kaki Lima Boston co-owner Peter Gelling.

The menu — which is still being finalized — will include some of Kaki Lima Boston's most popular dishes. The always-diffident Chef Retno said she hopes people will like it. “I will do my best,” she said. “I'm so grateful for the opportunity. This will be such a good learning experience for us as we work toward opening our own restaurant space in Boston.”

Kaki Lima Boston will continue to hold pop up dinners at venues around the city, where they will be experimenting with new recipes, some fusion dishes, and other items, as they perfect a final menu for their future restaurant.

“The restaurant industry is not an easy one. So we've opted to take it slow, to make sure we are ready — that we have the right experience and the resources to help ensure success — before we open our own place,” Gelling said. “KL@KO is the next step — maybe one of the final steps — in this process.”
